HP P7 Desktop Very Slow to Boot from USB or CD

I have an HP P7 desktop, 6GB of memory that I'm working on. When I boot from SSD it boots normally.

If I try to boot from CD or USB it can take for ever. To boot Macrium it took over 45 minutes, two different USB thumb drives on two different USB 2 ports connect to Motherboard. Booting UEFI.

I gave up on CD, it must take hours.

    Ran diagnostics, no issues.

You can see the indicator light on USB key, it comes on, reads for a second, goes off 5-7 secs, comes on, goes off, repetitively.

It will eventually boot but 45 minutes is ridiculous.

Any ideas as to what is causing this?

    Thanks

You could try monitoring continuous write to/read from those devices and see what speed you get.

That's with Windows drivers of course. When you're booting, that must be different.

    Internal bus problem?

    2) What settings are enabled for BIOS/MBR versus UEFI/GPT?
    Is the boot mode:
    a) Legacy
    b) UEFI hybrid (with CSM)
    c) UEFI native (without CSM)

    3) Which AV software is in use?

These are some steps you can try and see if they have any impact.
If you had already tried them then indicate what had happened.

    4) Has HP Client security been in use or has it been uninstalled?

    b) Ubuntu:

    7) Check to see if fast boot or ultra fast boot is enabled:
If enabled, temporarily disable it to check the results:

    8) Try all USB ports (2.0 and 3.0)

    9) Temporarily turn off secure boot:

    10) Hold down the power button for 15 seconds in the off position. Then attempt to boot to a USB flash drive with power on and repetitively clicking the F9 key.

    11) Try switching from UEFI hybrid with csm > UEFI hybrid without csm > legacy and see whether there is any impact on the USB boot

Thanks guys I'll see if I can get access and look.

Just to be clear the machine boots fine from internal storage zbook, it is when you use boot menu and boot from USB. It boots UEFI from USB as that is what I selected from the drop down.

I was reading that a bad USB device that is connect can cause issues. The owners kids smashed the two USB ports in the front so I was thinking I would disconnect them, along with printer, usb to UPS etc.
