The suggestion from 'Access Denied' to run 'Function Discovery Resource Publication' and set it to automatic worked for me.

But as in past updates, I also had to set up the sharing options again. I set mine slightly different than what's shown in post #21 because I want to share everything in the the public folders on each PC across my local network. To do that I needed to turn on public folder sharing under "All Networks".

Public folder are shared by default. If you have access to other PC's on the network, there is nothing you have to do. They are shared automatically. It has always been this way.

It may be the default for a new installation but after the upgrade (1803 and the one before that too), the "Advanced Sharing Settings" have "Turn off public Folder sharing" selected in the "All Networks" section.

Check out Access Denied's screenshot in post #21. With that setting, the public folders will not be shared on the network. It's set that way by default after updating to 1803 (or at least it was in my case).

Obviously, my link below covers everything about everything. And those settings are to be able to share. Public folder are always shared, AS IN ONCE YOU ARE SET UP, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SELECT TO SHARE ANYTHING MANUALLY LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE IF YOU PUT ITEMS IN THE PUBLIC FOLDERS.

Well maybe my PCs are unique because if "Turn off public folder sharing" is selected in the "All Networks" section of 'Advanced sharing settings' (get there by clicking "Sharing options" on the network status page), you will not be able to get to the public folders of that PC via the network. To me, that is proper behavior. What's not proper is that's the default config after the 1803 update.

Simply changing that selection to "Turn on sharing so that anyone with network access can read and write files in the public folders" allows exactly what it says. It's just not set that way after the 1803 update (even if it was before the update).

So after the update, we're faced with two issues regarding our networked computers. 1) They no longer show up in the network folder and 2) even after #1 is corrected (or you type \\'otherpcname', the Public Folders are not accessible from the other computers on the network.

Changing 'Function Discovery Resource Publication' to automatic fixes #1 and selecting "Turn on sharing so that anyone with network access can read and write files in the public folders" in the "All Networks" section of Advanced sharing settings fixes #2. Very simple and all (that I know) is back to they way it was before. The info in your Everything about Everything post may achieve the same result but covers more than I need.

In your setup, what would happen if you select "Turn off public folder sharing" in the "All Networks" section of Advanced sharing settings? Would your public folders become inaccessible or would your other settings override this setting?

I posted my problems about three weeks ago going through everything I have read in here. The final fix for me was going to each computer and turning off the IPV6 connectivity. I had tried this about a year ago without any success, but this time it worked. It may be that this time I also shut of all my SMB 1.0.

I believe the router/modem I'm using does not handle the IPV6 protocol correctly even though its specifications states it works with it. The first good sign was all my computers stated showing up in the network again not just one or two whenever they felt like it. When I go to them the initial response is twice as fast as it used to be.

It has now be about two and one half week going through a few windows cumulative updates and several reboots including the router and it is still working. Maybe this will help someone else with there problems.

It is easier to find just by opening Settings and typing Network Reset. I just did it and my shares are still working. I had to redo my static IP on my PC but that was easy. No ill effects from it. Hope it might help others. :)
I have messed about with this for over 3 hours doing all the different things people suggested and turned out for doing something as simple as the network reset fixed my issue thanks to your post.

Thanks for the advice, I didn't know this was an option. I will keep this in mind if I start having other problems. I believe the issue is my ISP doesn't use IPv6 and disables it "or has a bug" in the modem/router firmware. If I was to use a stand alone router I may not have a problem. At the moment I'm am just glade to be able to access my other computers to move files.
