    Windows 10 1703

    Hello,

Thank you for this tutorial--I used wushowhide several months ago to block FCU as it was giving me problems in several games. I am currently on 1703 and have had problems with the latest cumulative update for 1703 (KB4074592). I made a thread about my issues in the BSOD forums here: Random BSODs/Crashes after Latest Cumulative updates (1703). - Windows 10 Forums

I have confirmed that this update is what is causing my problems--whenever I uninstall the update, my issues go away. However, W10 immediately pushes the update again after I uninstall it. The weird part is, this update is not showing up in wushowhide. Every other update that was pushed around the same time is showing up, but not this one.

Is there a reason why one update might not show up in wushowhide? Is there anything else I can do to block this update on windows 10 home edition?

    Thank you.

    Hello Declio,

If you like, you might see if you could use the "Windows 10 Update Assistant" to update to the latest 1709 version.

    Thanks for your reply,

However, my intent is to not upgrade to 1709--that's why i'm using wushowhide in the first place. It was just curious to me that this particular cumulative update did not show up in the list for wushowhide. It's almost as if microsoft designed this particular update to get around the wushowhide tool. I was just wondering if anyone else had experience with updates not showing up as "hideable" in the wushowhide tool.

My test machine (System Two below) has system images I can restore to run any version of Windows 10 from 1507 up to 1709. When restoring the older images (so I can provide support answers here) I use wushowhide to prevent it updating itself. This is something I do regularly (every week or so) so I probably have more experience than most

My experience is that Features Updates (upgrades to the next version of Windows) behave differently from all other types of updates. Once windows update has checked for updates, found 'Features update for Windows 10, version 1709' and started the download it is then too late to hide it, even if it is still listed in wushowhide. Hiding it does not stop a download that's already begun. My technique is to have 'metered connection' turned on so that a download cannot start, giving me the opportunity to hide 1709 before the download can start.

I have not however seen any case where an available update (Features or Cumulative) has not shown up in wushowhide.

Edit: I have just restored my test machine's 1703 image and uninstalled KB4074592. You are right, it doesn't show in wushowhide. There is a very good reason for that, it is no longer the latest cumulative update!

On 22nd February it was superseded by KB4077528, whether that has fixed the issues you had with KB4074592 is something you'll have to test for yourself.
