Hello @UNISTAR, and welcome to Ten Forums.

Were you able to do step 14 to change your OneDrive folder to point to "Mamman" instead?

If all else fails, rename your profile folder back to "mamma". Afterwards, unlink OneDrive, rename the user profile to "Mamman", and try changing the OneDrive folder location again.

Hi! Love your tutorials! I had to do a clean install of Windows 10 and thought I had followed your instructions precisely, but there are a few stray instances of the previous user name in the registry -- most notably, in the Winlogon folder. I'm assuming this is what is causing the unused profile name to appear on the logon screen along with the preferred one after a restart (but not after signing out and back in). Everything else works fine, but this stray user name is still tied somehow to my profile and I can't figure out how to get rid of it completely. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Hello DeeDee,

Is the unused profile name for the same account?

Have you used netplwiz before changing the profile folder name? If so checking the box, or setting it up again after renaming the profile folder may help.

It seems to be just a remnant of my profile name. I will try the netplwiz thing tomorrow. Thanks!

Help: Cannot create desktop shortcuts anymore

I used the tutorial for changing the user folder name.
After changing the folder name from piek2 to Pier Carlo I ended up with having an extra user folder named piek2 with just one desktop subfolder.
    i.e.: C:\Users\piek2\Desktop
It seems the system kept this folder as default for Desktop and didn't move to Pier Carlo's desktop.

Trying to create a desktop shortcut from an .exe I get the error: "Windows couldn't create the shortcut. Check to see whether the disk is full".
Trying to create a Documents shortcut I get the error: 0x80004005: Unspecified error.
Any help, please? I'm afraid to reinstall from scratch... I would really prefer not to do it.
    Thank you in advance

update: never mind... I went back to the original user folder name (piek2) because I also had other issues like iTunes didn't recognized the iPhone backups done before the change.
Likely changing the user folder name would impact on many other items.
Thanks anyway for your great forum.

Going to neplwiz and turning on and off and back on the requirement to enter a password seems to work for preventing the unwanted user name appearing at logon, but there are still instances of the profile name in the registry. See attached. It also appears as the user name for my Acrobat X Pro legacy desktop installation which I use a lot, and I don't want to "upgrade" to Acrobat DC yet. I'd really like to get this resolved before re-installing the rest of my applications. Any suggestions on how to do that? Thanks!

You wouldn't want to go in the registry changing values like that. It would most likely break something.

If you have issues after changing the name of the user profile folder, then it would be best to change it back.

Brink, no, I wouldn't make any changes like that to the registry. Just wondering if that user profile name would be reflected in another Windows setting that I could safely change?

The only safe value I know to change is what's in the tutorial. Anything else is getting risky.
