Oh! yes, they do as long as one is using Microsoft's OS (Windows). I don't want to start a debate on the subject here. And, that doesn't mean that one cannot install a third-party app, but it looks like more and more Microsoft is sending the signals between the lines that they would prefer the use of apps found in the Store, as I clearly pointed out in one of my previous posts.

For that reason, I might be using two operating systems in the foreseeable future. I am thinking about "The Amnesic Incognito Live System (Tails)" which I will be using when I want total, complete privacy. Just for reference:

    Snip
Microsoft can send all the signals between the lines they want (that they would prefer the use of apps found in the Store), but they will never shoot themselves in the foot by making Store Apps mandatory and denying use of Third Party Apps; therefore, I have complete control over my computer.

And as long as I have that control, I will continue to use Windows 10 because it's the best OS available. BTW, with each update, I remove all Microsoft's added apps I don't plan to use in order to free up space on my SSD drive. I don't try to remove Cortana and Edge, just because I don't use them, though.

    10.0.16299.431 to 10.0.17134.48 setup.exe Live

Downloaded the ISO file @ MS website using the Agent User Switcher extension and upgrade from the ISO file = setup.exe (40-50 minutes). We upgraded on the guess account with 3 background apps only (no Store) and the start menu was intact. Settings Menu setup was about the same apart new switches. It takes about 30 minutes to review them.

Privacy switches duplication is gone after this upgrade, but not for microphone. No trace of the Insider channel in Settings. Update history was reset and only KB4103721 is shown for uninstall.

No bug in Defender showing green all over (dismiss MS account). Lost desktop image, icon theme, default browser reg hack, not shown as a choice, but works. en-US keyboard (default) was not responding to left shift or capital letter, switch to native language to get the function back. Some firewall rules were reset and duplicated, but I'm used to that.

Lastly, our privacy app was also upgrade showing many new processes (pXc coding). It's about it and considering this long thread, this is a perfect upgrade without clicking WU.

Note: There are 2 new apps in Ccleaner: Web Media Extensions and Xbox gaming overlay + Web search in Cortana.

KB4103721 (1803) black screen with rotating circle: potential fix
As many have discovered, installing the KB4103721 rollup to Windows 10 v1803 may result in a black non-responsive login screen with either a rotating circle of white dots or a blue "working" circle. The only way to get your desktop back is to reboot into safe mode, whereupon the update reports it was unable to install and rolls itself back.
If you then use msconfig and disable ALL non-Microsoft services, and reapply the update, you may find that it installs perfectly. This certainly worked for me.
For interest, the non-Microsoft services I disabled were:

    • Apple Mobile Device Server (Apple)
    • ASUS Com Service (ASUS Motherboard)
    • BattleEye Service (ARMA 3)
    • Bonjour Service (Apple)
    • Dropbox Update Service (Dropbox)
    • Google Update Service (Google)
    • iPod Service (Apple)
    • Logitech Gaming Registry Service (Logitech Mouse/Headset)
    • NVIDIA Display Container LS (NVIDIA)
    • NVIDIA Telemetry Container (NVIDIA)
    • OpenSSH Authentication Agent (Cygwin)
    • Steam Client Service (Valve)
    • SyncoveryVSSService (Superflexible)
    • Syncovery Service (Superflexible)

It is probable that only one of the above caused the problem, but since the update has now successfully installed, I've not had the opportunity to determine which one by enabling them one at a time.
Perhaps someone else can narrow down the culprit and report back.
    Hope this helps. ~Speedwaystar
Finally worked for me. thanks Speedwaystar
