Finally worked out what was causing my update to constantly fail, my system reserve partition on the OS drive was only 380mb and had no free space left.
I used EaseUS Partition Master Free version to reduce the OS partition at the front end by about 640MB, just for good measure, so then the unallocated space was between the System Reserve partition and the OS partition, I then maxed out the System Reserve Partition with the extra unallocated space I made to make it around 1gig.
It did this during a reboot but the tasks were prepared in windows, all went fine and it booted as normal, ran the update again and went through this time no problems.

    Assuming you mean KB4284835 (??):

I thought initially that possibly it's some sort of a Delta change rather than a full CU however as
KB4284835 is OLDER (17134.112) than the one being discussed in this thread - Cumulative Update KB4284848 Windows 10 v1803 Build 17134.137 - June 26 - Windows 10 Forums which gets you to ver 17134.137 so at this stage, I suggest basically ignore it.

    HOWEVER....

Having searched around, you appear to have Configuration Manager installed - see:

Manage Windows 10 express updates - Configuration Manager | Microsoft Docs

Support for Windows 10 - Configuration Manager | Microsoft Docs

Deploy Windows 10 updates using System Center Configuration Manager (Windows 10) | Microsoft Docs

I'm NOT familiar with this but it appears to me that your PC is or was connected as part of a Network - is it or was it a company machine?

Sadly Thankfully, my days of actually supporting systems ended with NT Server and much has altered, so hopefully someone with more current knowledge than I will spot this and comment further
    @Bree , @Brink ??

Unless other suggestions are forthcoming, I still suggest to ignore it and go for the latest CU

There is a Delta Update version available for KB4284835 in the Update Catalog but at some 490MB it's too large to be this 'express' package.

Me too, retired now. I haven't supported servers for a living since NT4.

Only what I can Google. An "Express Installation Files Feature" is an option for the Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), so your 'company machine' guess seems very likely.

...The express installation files feature is a way of identifying the exact bytes that change between different versions of files, creating and distributing updates that include just these differences, and then merging the original file with the update on the client computer....

If your apps are incompatible you could run them in a virtual machine of windows 7. And yes, the languages feature was moved to modern interface and is now handled by the store, all maintenance should be done from the new settings. I wonder if the old command line options of removing languages still work, like LPKSETUP or DISM.
I did not say I have problems with my APPS, please read from the top!.. I said I lost my 32 apps that were working fine until the disastrous update finished over night. My beef is not the functionality of my apps, it's the windows 10 update process that somehow clubered my system without my aim or intervention. Both problems got solved so far, I was able to rebuild my system with all the lost apps. And triggered OFF any windows 10 update, unless I intend to use any. I was happy before the april updates (1803) and shall be happy as long I do not give MS the helm to mess up my system.

A cumulative update did all this? The excerpt I highlighted above.... I've only seen that when a Reset/Refresh was done thru the Recovery Options in Settings, never as a result of a cumulative update. This is quite a bizarre action for a Patch Tuesday scenario.
You are correct, it seems a Reset/Refresh somehow got toggled overnight when I was soundasleep ,did the gremlins do that?

Do a repair install, and let the installer download updates. It will then bring you to 112.
Also tried a repair install without any success. Before the first reboot it pops up a dialog saying "Windows 10 installation has failed". Seems like my Windows environment is totally effed.

Paused updates for a month to avoid the nightly reboots when it will attempt and fail to install them again and again. Probably have to do a reformat and clean install of Windows with a more recent version with all of the security fixes rolled in.
